About Us

Our Chapter

The Henry Soane Chapter (AL19) of the Alabama Society Colonial Dames XVII Century was chartered on Sunday, November 3, 2024. Formed during the Hicks Administration of the Alabama Society, there were 23 members as this chapter began; some were sisters, others were nieces & aunts, we had mothers & daughters, some were friends, others were friends-waiting-to-be-met, but all the ladies were excited to be working together to build a strong society that honors our ancestors.

Our chapter is named for an ancestor of two of our members who was the Speaker of the Virginia House of Burgesses (1661). Henry Soane was also noted as a real estate investor and a landowner, and was the great-great grandfather of President Thomas Jefferson.

As a chapter of the National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century, the Henry Soane chapter members are part of over 11,000 ladies who share an interest in American history, honoring their ancestors, and promoting and maintaining a heraldry library & documenting our ancestors’ coats of arms. Membership requires proof of ancestry in America prior to 1701, through either maternal or paternal line.

Colonial Dames XVII Century Societies are dedicated to preserving history, fostering education, and building a community dedicated to honoring the legacy of our nation and our ancestors. If you’re interested in learning more about the Henry Soane Chapter, or the Colonial Dames XVII Century as a whole, please contact us.
