Colonial Dames XVII Century

 The National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century unites over 11,000 members who share a passion for American history and a commitment to preserving it. With heraldry at its core, the Society holds one of the largest collections of Coats of Arms in the country and uniquely requires members to prove ancestry in America before 1701.

Welcome

Message from the Chapter President

Thank you for visiting the website of the Henry Soane Chapter, Colonial Dames 17th Century (CDXVIIC). We’re proud to be the youngest chapter in the Alabama Society; but as 1st Timothy 4:12 says “Let no one despise your youth”; we’re young, but we’re excited about learning and growing in this wonderful society.

We’re learning about our ancestor’s coats of arms and what heraldry is about; we’re learning about the function of the CDXVIIC at a chapter, state, and national levels; we’re learning about local history; we’re learning how to help support the youth of America and the scholarships CDXVIIC has available for them.

We meet four times a year (January, May, September, and November) at the Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts. Our gatherings consist of a business meeting, short program, and time of socializing with ladies of similar interests. It’s my pleasure to serve as the first Chapter President, and it’s my goal to make every lady feel welcome and valued, heard and respected, and to leave the meeting wanting to join us over and over again.

When I was asked to serve as the Chapter President, I felt it was important to identify a Motto and a Bible Verse that I could hold on to as I lead the chapter during this early stage:

1 Corinthians 3:8

The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose,

and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor.

~~~~~
From the soil of preservation & education; the seeds of virtue, courage, & patriotism; and
the water of dedicated service, a new garden will blossom.
I hope you’ll be interested in finding out more about the Henry Soane Chapter and joining with us to help this chapter blossom. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions. If I can’t help you, I’ll definitely point you to someone who can; and as I do that, we’ll both learn the answer to the questions you have.
Warm regards,
~Amelia Dodd Denslow
